The How To Make A Magazine course is Frab's response to a need that you often bring us: to have clear and precise technical and practical advice on how to take your first steps in the independent magazine sector and make a magazine project concrete starting from zero.
That's why two years ago we launched Frab's first course called How To Make A Magazine. And after two highly successful online editions, this is the first entirely face-to-face edition, which we are proud to host during Mag To Mag on May 6 in Bologna in Sala Borsa.
WHO IT'S FOR
Our course includes three lessons, three modules, for those who want to create their own magazine from scratch, for those who have just started their own project or simply for those who want to know how a magazine is made in practice, get to know the world of independent periodical publishing, from its history, through the editorial line and the business plan.
HOW, WHERE AND WHEN
- The course will be held live and exclusively in presence during the Mag To Mag event. No registrations will be made available.
- The seat is the classroom on the third floor of the Sala Borsa Library in Bologna (BO). You enter from Piazza del Nettuno and at the entrance desk of the Mag To Mag event you will receive information on the location of the classroom.
- It is possible to follow the whole course or single modules;
- Those who follow the entire course can book a 30-minute call with Frab's following the course, where they can discuss the merits of their project;
- Until 31 March 2023, the entire course is available at 90 Euros instead of 120, and includes registration for the two-day Mag To Mag event + full pack of festival gadgets.

How do you build an independent magazine? Starting from your idea of a magazine, we take the first steps to form an editorial team, get to know the different trades and understand how to make the best use of your resources. What are the roles within an editorial team? How do you plan an editorial calendar? What is a rudder? Publishers of themselves, what does it mean?

The Business Plan of an independent magazine
Incoming teacher
Giving life to a magazine, in addition to dreams, also means colliding with the reality of invoices, VAT numbers, costs and bureaucracy. In this lesson, we'll explain how to build your magazine's business plan, we'll help you sort through all the costs beyond printing, and we'll guide you in the organizational and administrative management behind a magazine.

Format, structure, rhythm, layout, typography, illustration, photography and paper, lots of paper: a magazine is not made up of words alone! In this lesson we explore the facets and possibilities of editorial design, from the idea of your magazine to the printing phase.
